What can I use my Ohelo for?
Your Ohelo product is designed to help keep you happy and hydrated. We know your hydration needs change hour by hour, day by day – and that is the beauty of the Ohelo range, they are versatile, fitting into your lifestyle however they are needed.
Ohelo bottle: Our classic bottle shape can be used to carry a variety of thirst quenchers. Whether it’s the classic water you go to for your hydration needs, a toasty tea to keep you warm out and about, a nutritious juice for a much-needed boost or a cheeky wine to liven up a picnic. You can even put your fizzy drinks (both soft and alcoholic) in your Ohelo bottle, and it will keep them nice and cold for you until you are ready to enjoy. Just remember, pressure can build up on the inside of the bottle if filled with a carbonated/sparkling liquid, so please remove the lid with care, otherwise it may “pop” off with excitement.
Ohelo tumbler: This guy was designed with multi-functionality at heart. He wants to carry your morning coffee for you as you head off to work in the morning. He wants to be your water holder during the day, to keep it cool and help you avoid those pesky single use plastics, and he is pumped to be your protein shaker for your post-work workout. (If you are more a milkshake drinker than a protein supper that is fine, he can handle that sort of mixing too). The stainless steel mesh can also be used as a loose leaf tea strainer. Being made from stainless steel means he does not pick up odours/flavours from the liquids he carries, allowing the same Ohelo to be used for many tasks during your day. He is hot at keeping things hot, and cool at keeping things cold (Our tumblers are not suitable for carbonated / fizzy drinks).

-
Are the Ohelo bottle lids leak-proof?
Yes. Our bottle lids have been designed to be leak proof. You can put your Ohelo in your bag if you wish, and your drink will remain in your bottle. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
-
Is the Ohelo tumbler lid leak-proof?
Yes. We listened to what people were saying to us when we were developing our products. Being able to put your tumbler into your bag without having droplets of coffee leak out was super important to you. We designed our tumbler to be unlike any other we know of. To have a fully leak-proof lid, yet to still be beautifully designed and elegant. Both beautiful and functional.
-
How do I use my Ohelo tumbler?
The Ohelo tumbler opens and closes with a simple twist of the leaf shape on the inner lid. As with all lids you open by turning anti-clockwise and close by turning clockwise. The inner lid should be turned clockwise until you feel a closing bump to ensure fully closed. Please ensure you fully close both the outer and the inner lid to avoid any leaks! To remove the inner lid for cleaning, twist open using the leaf shape, then simply push out from underneath. (You will need to remove the steel mesh first).
The steel mesh attachment and the silicone seal which holds it in place can be removed if not required. The tumbler will still be fully leakproof.
Tip: when not on-the-go you can fully remove the sip lid and use the tumbler as an insulated cup, helping get some extra use out of it both at the office and at home.
Check out our handy tumbler 'how to' videos here.
-
Can I adjust the flow on my Ohelo tumbler?
Your Ohelo travel cup is designed to give you a safe flow for a hot drink by simply opening the twist lid fully.
However, if you wat additional flow / a bit more of a gulp, then you can increase the flow by grabbing the inner lid leaf shape and lifting upwards once fully open. When you let go, the inner lid will sit in a higher position, allowing you to drink with a stronger flow than the usual setting. The inner lid is then closed in the same manner as normal, by twisting until you feel the closing bump.
Check out our handy video on how to do this here

Can I put my Ohelo bottle in the refrigerator/freezer?
Putting your Ohelo into the refrigerator won’t cause any damage to it. However, as it is wonderfully insulated by the triple layer vacuum insulation, putting it in the fridge will not cool the liquid inside (unless you leave the lid off, in which case you will get some cooling through the top of the bottle/tumbler).
However, please do not put any of the Ohelo range into the freezer. As water expands when it freezes it can put outward pressure on your Ohelo, which may cause damage to the vacuum seal that gives the Ohelo bottle and tumbler their thermal insulating qualities.
But don’t despair, your Ohelo bottle and/or tumbler are designed to keep your drinks just as you like them. So, if you are looking for a cold refreshing hit, just fill it with your favourite cold drink and it will still be cold when you are ready for it. If you are after a super chilled drink, add a few ice cubes in there – they were designed to allow you to do that too.
-
Can I put my Ohelo bottle in the microwave?
No. Please do not put any of the Ohelo range in the microwave, they are not suitable for microwave use. Just fill it with your go to hot beverage, and it will keep it toasty warm for you to enjoy when you are ready for it. If you really want to heat your Ohelo before putting in your hot drink of choice, then fill it with hot water and put the lid on for a few minutes. This will heat the internal surfaces to a sufficiently toasty temperature before putting your drink of choice inside. The triple layer vacuum insulation will then take care of the rest, keeping it nice and hot for you to enjoy later on.
-
Are the bottle lids interchangeable?
Yes. Designed with functionality at their heart, all of our Ohelo bottles are created with the same size neck. This means that any bottle lid will fit any bottle size.
-
Can I take my Ohelo bottle on an aeroplane/through airport security?
Yes. An empty Ohelo bottle should be fine to take through airport security. Just make sure you take it empty (as there are restrictions in taking fluids through security), then get it filled up while you wait in departures for your holiday adventures to start.
-
Cleaning
-
Is my Ohelo dishwasher safe?
Yes! Unlike most insulated steel bottles and cups, we make ours tough enough to withstand the dishwasher.
We laser engrave our designs rather than printing them, so they also won’t fade or peel in the dishwasher.
All bottle lids, bottle straps and tumbler lid parts are also dishwasher safe.
Please see below for further cleaning info.
-
How do I clean my Ohelo?
Hand wash or pop in the dishwasher – the choice is yours!
We recommend you use hot soapy water to clean your Ohelo product after every use. For a good old fashioned thorough clean you can use some bicarbonate of soda with water to make a paste and rub the inside with that. However, please clean with soft cloths, as harsher scouring pads and brushes can cause damage to your stainless steel. Damage can also be caused when cleaning stainless steel if you use chemicals which are too strong, such as chloride containing bleaches. This is why it is best to use hot soapy water or bicarbonate of soda as your cleaning material of choice.
Of course, if you are short on time, or just prefer it, Ohelo bottles are dishwasher safe.
Dishwashers are hostile environments and most reusable bottles can’t take the heat. However, Ohelo bottles are ready for every adventure – even a cycle through the dishwasher. If you choose to use the dishwasher, you may be left with water marks on your Ohelo bottle. But don’t worry, just boil a kettle and carefully pour some hot water over the mark on your bottle for a couple of seconds while your bottle is safely placed in your sink and those marks should disappear.
To take apart the tumbler inner lid for cleaning, twist open using the leaf shape, then simply push out firmly from underneath. (You will need to remove the steel mesh first).

When to take care and attention when using my Ohelo product?
We hope you use your Ohelo product to fulfil all of your hydration needs as it was intended. However please take note of the following to ensure safe usage of your Ohelo:
• Ohelo bottles and tumblers are made of high-quality 18/8 stainless steel. As such they should NEVER be put into a microwave. Please DO NOT do it.
• Do not put your Ohelo in the freezer. It may cause damage to the vacuum seal that provides the thermal insulation that makes it such a joy to use.
• Take caution when using your Ohelo bottle with carbonated/sparkling/fizzy drinks. The leak proof lid your Ohelo bottle has keeps your liquids safe inside as you carry them with you. It also keeps all of those wonderful bubbles in there too, so that your Prosecco (or lemonade) is still fizzy when you reach your destination. However, this can cause pressure to build up inside the bottle. Please take care when removing the lid in these situations and point away from any other person nearby. We don’t want the lid “popping” off and causing harm to anyone. (Please note our tumblers are not suitable for carbonated / fizzy drinks).
• Take caution when filling your Ohelo with steaming hot liquids. The leak proof lid your Ohelo keeps the steam sealed inside keeping your liquids hot. This can cause some steam build up inside your product. Please take care when opening products when using hot beverages to avoid burns. Hot liquids will stay hot for hours due to vacuum insulation so always open and drink with care.
• To ensure your Ohelo is leak proof, please ensure the lid is put on correctly and tightened well.
• Take care not to overfill your Ohelo, especially when using hot liquids.
• Your Ohelo is not intended to be used as a long-term storage container for liquids.

Sale Information
We do not go on sale very often - as a family brand manufacturing ethically from safer materials our margins are always quite tight. However we do like to offer the opportunity to help you all shop sustainably with an incentive every now and then. Any current offers will be listed below:
-
What is an Ohelo bottle made from?
Your Ohelo bottle or tumbler is made from high-grade 18/8 stainless steel.
What is stainless steel? It is an iron based alloyed metal which contains a minimum of 10.5% Chromium and covers a range of different materials. The 18/8 ratio shown above refers to the ratio of Chromium to Nickel that is present within the stainless steel grade we use (it contains approximately 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel). The Chromium present in stainless steel gives it its “stainless” quality. It allows an invisible chromium oxide layer to form on the surface of the metal which is corrosion resistant (it stops the iron present in the stainless steel alloy from forming iron oxide, more commonly known as rust). This is self-healing in the presence of Oxygen. Pretty cool. The Nickel is used to improve strength and toughness. It also helps protect against corrosion and oxidisation.
The easy cleaning nature of stainless steel makes it a great hygienic choice for use in water bottles and tumblers. Grade 18/8 is the most commonly used given it is durable, easy to clean and does not leach flavours or chemicals into the liquids it’s carrying. You may see other numbers referring to a type of stainless steel, as different countries have different classifications. For 18/8 stainless steel the US uses grade 304 and the EU uses grading 1.4301. They are all different grading numbers for the same material.
The Ohelo bottle lid is made from food grade polypropylene, free from BPA, BPF and BPS with a cap made from stainless steel.
The Ohelo tumbler sip lid is made from food grade polypropylene with a stainless steel mesh/strainer.
Ohelo products are vegan.

Triple Layer Insulation – why is this different to standard vacuum insulated products?
All Ohelo products have triple layer vacuum insulation. What do we mean by this?
Many vacuum insulated bottles and cups will simply be made from 2 layers of stainless steel which sandwich the vacuum layer into the bottle.
Here at Ohelo we go one step further and include an extra copper coating on the inner steel layer. This copper coating faces the vacuum void. This copper layer improves the quality of the thermal insulation by preventing heat loss by radiation. It also helps to prevent the degradation of the vacuum layer by preventing gases released by the stainless steel from reaching the vacuum space. The additional layer of copper creates a much higher quality product with better performance and durability. This is why we call it triple layered insulation.
Our extra copper layer improves our thermal insulation and helps our products last longer.
We hope that this helps make you a more informed consumer!

What is electropolishing?
Electropolishing is a process which uses the principle of electrolysis to remove surface imperfections from a metal. The surface requiring electropolishing is submerged in an electrolyte, with a direct current causing removal of metal ions from the surface. A higher current density at the micro-peaks causes the “hills” on the surface to be removed at a faster rate than the “valleys”. This leaves the surface microscopically smooth – no more bumps. In stainless steel, the iron and nickel atoms are preferentially removed when compared to the chromium atoms, leaving a chromium rich surface which improves the passivation layer (see “What is an Ohelo bottle made from?” for an explanation on what this is). This leaves a smooth surface, with high resistance to bacteria build-up, increased surface cleanability and increased corrosion-resistance. Good stuff!

What is solder? Why does Ohelo use lead-free solder? Is this normal?
Solder is the material used to seal the bottom of the bottle/tumbler during the vacuumisation process. The outer layer of the bottle/tumbler has a small hole in the bottom which enables a vacuum to be formed between the two layers when it is placed in a special oven. The oven both removes the air to create the vacuum and heats the products to melt the solder. The melted solder seals the outer layer shut thus keeping the vacuum layer present.
The industry standard for solder on vacuum insulated bottles contains lead. There are very few companies producing products using a solder that is lead free. To avoid customers being exposed to this lead, the products will normally have this sealing dot covered somehow. This can be done with a shaped cap covering the base, a metal or silicone cover disc attached to the vessel bottom, or even with a paint finish. However, during the vacuumisation process, trace amounts of lead from the solder can end up on the surfaces of the products themselves. The people making the products will also be exposed to the lead in the solder. Due to its toxicity, lead based solder is currently banned in the EU in electronics (it’s main use) and for sale to the general public, but is not specifically banned for use in bottles.
Lead-free solder is available as an option, but it is significantly more expensive. The reasons it costs more than the standard solder are:
• The solder itself is more expensive
• It needs dedicated specialist ovens to create the vacuum. This is because if you use an oven which has been used for products that use standard solder (contain lead), even if the solder you are using is lead-free, lead will be present in the oven and so on the product. Even cleaning the oven can not avoid this cross contamination.
• It requires a longer period spent in the vacuum oven, which adds to manufacturing time and thus cost.Ohelo uses lead-free solder only. We want our products to be safe for our customers and for the people who help us make them.

Where are Ohelo bottles manufactured?
Ohelo products are currently ethically and responsibly manufactured in China.
We looked at manufacturing closer to home but alas there are no manufacturers for these types of products anywhere in Europe.
We have personally visited and inspected our manufacturer's facilities ourselves just to make sure they are up to our high standards! Furthermore, we hold various independent, internationally recognised inspection reports on our manufacturer to ensure high levels of product safety and quality control as well as the safety and wellbeing of those making our products.
For further information on these reports and standards read our next FAQ "What do you mean when you say your bottles and cups are ethically made" -
What do you mean when you say your bottles and cups are ethically made?
Ohelo water bottles and travel cups are ethically made.
We have personally visited and inspected our manufacturer's facilities ourselves just to make sure they are up to our high standards!
Furthermore, we hold various independent, internationally recognised inspection reports on our manufacturer. This allows us to ensure high levels of product safety and quality control as well as the safety and wellbeing of those making our products. We hold a 4 pillar SMETA report on our manufacturer which shows we are manufacturing in an ethical and responsible way. This report covers everything from workers’ wages and health & safety in the workplace to gender equality, workers’ rights to representation, no forced labour, no child labour and more.
Some other manufacturers we visited would have allowed us to make our products at ½ the cost we now pay for our goods, but they were quite shocking places (that were manufacturing for some big UK names), but we will not compromise on worker wellbeing. The problems with fast fashion can also be found within the reusable hydration industry. Some will sell cheaper as they will be making in the cheapest facility possible with inferior/less safe materials.
Many companies will simply not have these independent ethical manufacturing reports or will not be willing to share them (depending on what the reports show).
We choose to manufacturer in a responsible way, to ensure everyone in the chain is treated fairly. Our worker’s rights and wellbeing are vitally important - and our customers can use our bottles happily knowing that everyone involved has been treated fairly.
Our manufacturer also holds a range of certifications showing both social and environmental responsibility:
ISO 9001: ISO 9001 is defined as the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
ISO 14001: ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. ISO 14001:2015 is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.
ISO 45001: Created to help organisations improve workplace safety and reduce employee injuries. ISO 45001 details how companies can build an effective OH&S management system for assessing risk and monitoring workplace activities. It helps organisations proactively prevent ill-health and harm and integrates with employee wellbeing and wellness initiatives.
ISO 45001 supports the development of health and safety policies and objectives, determines hazards and health risks, and puts in place controls and procedures to reduce the risk of harm.
ISCC Plus: International Sustainability and Carbon Certification. ISCC PLUS scheme is the globally recognised standard for the sustainable use of biomass or recyclates from packaging waste in the chemical industry, as well as in sectors of the processing industry such as packaging. It considers sustainability at all stages of the supply and production chain in the food and feed industries. Certification provides confidence that an organisation complies with globally recognised ecological and social sustainability requirements, voluntary greenhouse gas emissions reductions and traceability throughout its supply chain. -

I received the wrong order, what should I do?
How peculiar. Sadly, our distribution warehouses are run by humans and we can all make mistakes every now and again. If this has happened to you, please contact our customer services at help@Ohelobottle.com.

Do you offer any discounts on Ohelo products?
We may on occasion offer a discount to be used on Ohelobottle.com. The best way to find out about any available discount is to sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of this page.
We currently offer a 15% discount to NHS workers. To access the discount just click here and create an account with an nhs.net email address. Then enter code “NHS15” at checkout. Ensure you checkout with your nhs.net email for the code to be accepted.
As you may know, we previously offered a discount via the Blue Light Card scheme. This is a discount we have offered since launching and throughout the pandemic as a way to show our support to the key workers getting us all through. However, Blue Light card have recently changed their policies and are no longer listing offers from small independent companies in the same way, instead moving to a more profit focussed affiliate model which favours large companies. We have now changed our system as above to allow a 15% discount for NHS workers.
